Dermal Fillers in Birchington, Thanet

Natural-looking results, without unnecessary volume.

Dermal filler isn't about filling every line or changing the way you look. Dr Tania Robakowska first assesses how your face's support, volume and proportions have changed over time. Only then does she recommend treatment, often starting with the lips and the area around the mouth, to restore balance so you look fresher and more rested, and still like yourself.

Where filler can help

What dermal fillers can help with

As we age, the face changes in layers: bone, fat and skin all shift. Carefully placed filler can help restore support where it has been lost. Results are temporary and vary from person to person.

A patient in her 60s holds a hand mirror and talks through what she sees with Dr Tania during her consultation

Lips

Volume, shape and definition lost with age, restored subtly. The aim is lips that look softer, smoother and naturally fuller, not fake or overdone.

Lines around the mouth

Fine vertical lip lines, often called smoker's lines, and the downturn at the corners of the mouth. Softening them can help the whole area look fresher.

Cheeks and mid-face

Loss of support that can make the face look tired or flatter, and can deepen the under-eye area.

Jawline

Softened definition along the jaw, where clinically appropriate.

Chin

Support and proportion in the lower face.

Temples

Hollowing that changes the shape of the upper face.

Not sure where you need filler? You don't need to know.

Most people simply say "I look tired" or "my face has dropped". Tell Dr Tania what you see; working out why it has changed is her job.

A different approach

Small amounts. Carefully placed. A long-term plan.

Facial ageing rarely happens in one place. A deepening fold beside the nose, for example, is often linked to a loss of support in the cheek above it. Filling the fold alone can add weight without addressing why it formed.

So Dr Tania looks at the whole face first: its structure, proportions, skin quality and how it moves. Where filler is appropriate, she uses carefully considered amounts, placed to restore support rather than simply add volume. The plan is then reviewed over time, as your face changes.

Where Dr Tania often starts

The lips: often the first place to start

With age, the lips lose volume, shape and definition. Fine lines form around the mouth, especially in smokers, and the corners begin to turn down. Because the mouth sits at the centre of how we read a face, these changes can make the whole face look older, tired or even cross.

Restoring a little volume and support in and around the lips can make the whole face look fresher. The aim is never bigger lips. It is lips that look softer, smoother and naturally fuller, not fake or overdone: lips that look more like yours did, with softer lines around them.

Dr Tania doesn't only treat the lines. She also looks at the small shadows around the lips, where support and volume have been lost. Small, careful changes here can make the whole face look fresher.

For many mature faces, Dr Tania plans treatment in this order. Your own plan always depends on your anatomy.

  1. 1
Lips and the area around the mouth

Subtle volume and definition, softer lip lines, and support at the corners of the mouth.

  2. 2
    Cheeks and mid-face

Restoring cheek support may also soften the under-eye area and help definition along the jawline.

  3. 3
    Jawline

Considered next, once the support above it has been restored, where it is still needed.

The changing face

Dermal fillers in your 40s, 50s and beyond

The first changes in facial support often show in your 40s. And the face at 55 shouldn't be approached the way the face at 30 is. Not because anything is wrong with it, but because it has changed in different ways.

Over time, the facial skeleton gradually remodels, the fat pads that shape the cheeks and temples shrink and shift, and skin makes less collagen and elastin. What changes is less a set of wrinkles and more the face's support and proportions.

Techniques designed for younger faces, adding volume where it's most visible, can look heavy on a mature face. Treating the mature face well usually means less product, placed more strategically, often alongside treatments that improve the skin itself.

Most of Dr Tania's patients are over 40. The changing face is where her clinical interest lies.

An honest answer

Do I actually need filler?

Sometimes, no.

If what bothers you is mainly skin quality, texture or laxity rather than lost support, filler may not be the right answer. Dr Tania may suggest a treatment that works on the skin itself, such as collagen stimulation, RF microneedling, polynucleotides or skin boosters, or a combination planned over several months. Or she may suggest nothing yet.

For younger patients, the answer is more often no. A younger face usually still has its own natural support, and adding filler to follow a trend or copy someone else's features can distort its proportions over time. Dr Tania will decline treatment that isn't right for your anatomy, and explain why.

Every recommendation is made after assessment, for your face specifically. You'll be told what she would recommend, including when that's nothing.

"I do not treat everyone. I do not over-treat."Dr Tania

Why patients choose Cosmetic Medicine

A doctor first

Dr Tania Robakowska is a GMC-registered doctor who qualified in 2007 and has practised aesthetic medicine since 2016. She is a physician before she is an injector: she examines before she treats, listens before she recommends, and has referred patients back to their GP when what she found had nothing to do with why they came in.

Why it matters who treats you

Your face, in the right hands

Filler is a medical treatment. The face is full of blood vessels and nerves, and treating it well depends on knowing exactly what lies beneath the skin.

At Cosmetic Medicine, every consultation and treatment is carried out by Dr Tania Robakowska, a GMC-registered doctor with detailed knowledge of facial anatomy, who can recognise and act immediately if anything unexpected happens.

"It matters more who is holding the syringe than what is in it."Dr Tania

Before you decide

What to know before treatment

Like any medical treatment, dermal filler carries risks. Dr Tania will go through them with you at consultation, in relation to your face and health.

Common and short-lived

Swelling, bruising, tenderness or redness where the filler was placed, usually settling within days to two weeks.

Less common

Lumps, unevenness or infection.

Rare but serious

Filler blocking a blood vessel, which can damage skin and, very rarely, affect vision. Detailed anatomical knowledge, careful technique and a doctor able to act immediately all matter here.

Good to know

Hyaluronic acid fillers are temporary, and can be dissolved if there is a clinical need. Filler may not be suitable if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, have an active skin infection, or have certain medical conditions or take certain medicines, all checked at consultation. By law, filler is not given to anyone under 18.

Questions

Dermal filler questions

How much do dermal fillers cost in Birchington?
It depends on what your face needs, which is why the price is set after assessment. As a guide, filler treatment at Cosmetic Medicine starts from £350. The consultation is £70, deducted from your treatment if you go ahead. You'll receive a written cost before you decide, with no obligation to go ahead.
Will lip filler make my lips look big?
No. For mature lips the aim is to restore some of the volume, shape and definition lost with age, so they look softer and naturally fuller, not bigger, fake or plastic. Small, carefully placed amounts keep the result in proportion with the rest of your face.
Can filler help the lines around my mouth?
Often, yes. Fine vertical lines above the lip, sometimes called smoker's lines, and the downturn at the corners of the mouth can be softened by supporting the lips and the skin around them. Treating the small shadows around the mouth as well as the lines can help the whole area, and often the whole face, look fresher. Deeper lines may need a combination with treatments that improve skin quality.
How much filler will I need?
Often less than people expect. The amount depends on your anatomy and the changes Dr Tania finds, not on a set number of syringes. Some plans are staged over more than one visit, so the result can be reviewed before anything more is added.
Will I look overfilled?
The whole approach is designed to avoid it: considered amounts, placed to restore support, then reviewed. If you've been overfilled elsewhere, a gradual plan to correct course can be discussed.
How long do dermal fillers last?
Typically between about 6 and 18 months, depending on the product, the area treated and your own metabolism. Areas that move less tend to last longer. Dr Tania will tell you what to expect for your plan.
When will I see the result?
Some change is visible straight away, but swelling can mask it. The result usually settles over two to four weeks, which is when it's best judged, and when your follow-up review usually takes place.
Is there any downtime?
Most people return to normal activities the same day. Swelling or bruising is possible, so avoid booking treatment within two weeks of an important event. You'll receive written aftercare advice.
What if I have a concern after treatment?
Contact the clinic at any point. You'll be given an out-of-hours contact after treatment, and if anything worries you, Dr Tania will review you.
Can filler help jowls?
Sometimes, indirectly. Jowls often reflect a loss of support in the cheeks and jawline as well as looser skin. Restoring support can soften them, but where laxity is the main cause, another treatment, or a referral to discuss surgery, may be more honest advice.
Can dermal fillers lift the face?
Not in the way surgery does. Restoring support in the right places can make the face look fresher and less tired. Dr Tania will be clear about what filler can and can't achieve for you.
Are dermal fillers suitable in my 40s, 50s or 60s?
Yes, for many people. Most of Dr Tania's patients are over 40. The changing face usually needs a more conservative, structural approach, often combined with treatments that improve skin quality.
I'm in my 20s or 30s. Will you treat me?
Only if it's genuinely right for your face. Younger faces usually still have good natural support, so filler is often unnecessary, and treatment that follows trends can distort proportions over time. Dr Tania will say no to treatment that isn't appropriate for your anatomy, and explain what, if anything, would help instead. All patients must be 18 or over.
What if Dr Tania thinks I don't need filler?
She'll tell you, explain why, and suggest what might help instead, which may be nothing for now. You'll leave with a clear understanding of your face either way.
Can filler be combined with collagen-stimulating treatments?
Often, yes. Filler can restore support; collagen-stimulating treatments work on skin quality over months. Combined and properly sequenced, they can complement each other. Your plan sets out the order and timing.
Do you treat men?
Yes. Men's facial anatomy and ageing differ from women's, and treatment is planned to keep a natural, masculine structure.
